The challenge
- Budget apps that hide the basics behind a paywall
- Freelancers with uneven income and many small subscriptions
- Families who want one shared budget, not three separate apps
LanceSpend is our own full-stack budgeting web app. It tracks spending against a monthly budget, catches subscriptions before they renew, lets a family share one budget and reads receipts from a photo. We designed it, wrote the front end and the API, and run it on Vercel with PostgreSQL on Supabase.

The dashboard shows how much of this cycle's budget is spent, what is left, the average per day and a forecast for the next cycle. Below it, Where it went breaks spending into categories with each one's share of the total.

A donut chart shows the month at a glance, each category shows its change against the month before, and one search box finds any expense by note, category, tag or amount. A switch flips between the family's spending and just your own.

Recurring bills and subscriptions sit in one list with their monthly cost and next due date. LanceSpend adds them on the day, and reminders warn you a few days before.

The calendar shows what was spent each day and which bills are coming up, so a heavy week stands out before it arrives.

Snap a receipt and LanceSpend reads the total, the shop, the payment method, the category and the date, using OCR with Claude for the hard ones. You can also speak an expense and the form fills itself in.

Each reminder can be switched on or off: bill alerts a set number of days before, a Monday email digest, a monthly report and push notifications on the phone.
LanceSpend was built phone first: it installs to the home screen, and every screen fits one hand with the Add Expense button always in reach.
